TSV 9-5-19: WEEK 2 PREVIEW, WEEK 1 REVIEW

THIS WEEK VIDEO POSTED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE ARTICLE - SCROLL DOWN

Hi Everybody! Welcome to this week's edition of The Sports Vent. What a start to the GHSA Football season it has been. I am thrilled to be covering high school football action and am especially excited about the live coverage we are bringing you throughout the season on Friday nights! Our first broadcast of last week's game between Madison County and Habersham Central was a tremendous success. If you'd like to see the replay of that broadcast check out it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jjzz8F7t1Q&t=3287s

This week we return to Habersham Central to bring you a live broadcast of the game as Tim Cokely's White County Warriors (1 - 0) make the trip over to Mt. Airy to face Benji Harrison's Habersham Central Raiders (0 - 2) who will look to get their first win of the season. This will be a matchup of high octane offenses lead by two crafty QBs in White County's J.Ben Haynes and Hab's Ryte Woodruff.

WEEK 1 REVIEW

The Sports Vent continues to stay hot on our predictions this year. So far the games I've prognosticated have resulted in a 15 - 2 record. This past week Dacula, Blessed Trinity, ELCA, North Hall, Hart County, Monroe Area and Elberty County all rewarded us for our faith in them with our only two loses coming at the hands of Clarke Central and Lanier, who I had predicted would get beaten by Oconee County & Central Gwinnett respectively. TSV was 8 - 0 on Corkey Kell predictions in Week 0 and will look to make that 9 - 0 this week as I'm picking Milton to beat Buford in their make up game tomorrow night that was forced to be rescheduled due to field conditions and weather at Cool Ray Field.

Week 2 Predictions:

MILTON 24 - BUFORD 14

COACH CLACK HAS THIS TEAM BELIEVING IN THE TRADITION AND THE CULTURE THAT HAS BEEN BUILT IN HIS SHORT TENURE THERE. TO BE THE MAN, YOU HAVE TO BEAT THE MAN AND BUFORD HASN'T DONE WELL IN BIG GAME FOR A FEW YEARS NOW. UNDOUBTEDLY THIS WILL BE TOUGHER TEST FOR THE EAGLES THIS WEEK THAN THE FREEDOM BOWL WAS, BUT I BELIEVE THE LEADERSHIP OF PLAYERS LIKE PAUL TCHIO AND THE PLAY MAKING OF AHMAD JUNEARICK WILL BE ENOUGH TO TAKE DOWN THE WOLVES. HOWEVER, THE YOUNG QB DUO OF WEAVER & FARELL SHOULD BE LEARLY OF THROWING TO THE SIDE OF BUFORD'S STAR CORNER JALEN HUFF. HUFF IS A SHUTDOWN CORNER AND AN INT WAITING TO HAPPEN.

PARKVIEW 17 - LOWNDES 20

CODY BROWN AND JORDAN WILLIAMS ARE ONE OF THE MOST DYNAMIC BACKFIELD DUOS IN THE STATE OF GEORGIA. HOWEVER, THE LOWNDES DEFENSE IS STAR STUDDED AT ALL THREE LEVELS. JALON JONES IS A MONSTER 6'4" 260 DE THAT IS DRAWING A LOT OF RECRUITING BUZZ. LINEBACKERS SHAWN MARTIN AND JALON BAKER HAVE RECEIVED THE TEAM'S DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARDS THE FIRST TWO WEEKS RESPECTIVELY AND JOSH BROWN IS A GREAT ATHLETE AT CORNER THAT IS COMMITTED TO TROY. THE VIKING'S DEFENSE WILL BE THE DIFFERENCE, COMBINED WITH THE LONG TRAVEL FOR PARKVIEW.

GAINESVILLE 27 - LAMBERT 20

DESPITE LOSING TO A MUCH IMPROVED NORTH FORSYTH TEAM LAST WEEK, THIS GAINESVILLE SQUAD HAS THEIR SWAGGER BACK UNDER HEATH WEBB. LOOK FOR THE RED ELEPHANTS TO BOUNCE BACK THIS WEEK ON THE ROAD. TWO THINGS TRAVEL WELL DEFENSE AND RUNNING THE FOOTBALL. GAINESVILLE HAS TALENT IN BOTH AREAS AND THIS LAMBERT PROGRAM IS NOT THE LONGHORNS OF OLD. QUES BORDERS, MAKIUS SCOTT WILL MAKE ENOUGH PLAYS DEFENSIVELY AND BIG JORDAN WILLIAMS WILL LEAD AN OFFENSIVE LINE THAT WILL OPEN UP HOLES FOR GIONNI WILLIAMS AND DEZ BROWN TO SCAMPER THROUGH. GAINESVILLE CONTROLS THE CLOCK AND ULTIMATELY THE SCOREBOARD.

LANIER 31 - ALPHARETTA 13

NOT MUCH TO SAY HERE OTHER THAN PHILLIP WEBB AND THIS LANIER DEFENSE ARE DOWN RIGHT NASTY. THEY HANDLED THE ATHLETICISM OF CENTRAL GWINNETT WITH EASE AND THEY HAVE THE WEAPONS OFFENSIVELY TO FORCE TEAMS TO PLAY FROM BEHIND, ONLY CREATING MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR AN OPPORTUNISTIC DEFENSE!

LUMPKIN CO. 10 - JACKSON CO. 38 (HOMECOMING & BOUNCE BACK FOR JC... WONDER HOW MANY TIMES LUMPKIN IS HOMECOMING FOR OPPONENTS THIS YEAR)

GILMER CO. 24 - GORDON CENTRAL 7 (GILMER SNAPPED A 38 GAME LOSING STREAK LAS WEEK, NOW THEY'LL HAVE A 2 GAME WINNING STREAK)

ROCKMART 35 - HEARD CO. 17 (STATE CHAMPIONSHIP REMATCH, ROCKMART MAKES A STATEMENT)

COMMERCE 13 - HART CO. 28 (ULTIMATELY HART HAS MORE DEPTH & SPEED, BUT COMMERCE IS FOR REAL)

APALACHEE 17 - MADISON COUNTY 21 (LOTT'S BUNCH WILL FIGHT AND CONTINUE TO IMPROVE, BUT SMITH, COOPER, AND WILLINGHAM ARE TOO GOOD AT THE OPTION ATTACK FOR MADISON)

NORTH HALL 17 - CHEROKEE 14 (DESPITE CHEROKEE GETTING OFF TO A GREAT START, NORTH HALL'S DEFENSE MAY THE BEST DAVE BISHOP HAS HAD IN HIS TENURE AS HC. JT FAIR AND THE OFFENSE WILL GRIND OUT LONG POSSESSIONS AND LIMIT THE NUMBER OF TIMES AJ SWANN GETS TO LEAD THE CHEROKEE OFFENSE DOWN THE FIELD. CHEROKEE HOWEVER IS MUCH IMPROVE AND HAS DEFINITELY EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS TO THIS POINT.
